I've seen this a couple of places...on Live Journal and Beth did it as well.
1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before?
I got married! :)
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't really do resolutions. Or maybe I do, but never write them down and I forget? I don't know....I forget!
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Physically close? No. But my good friend in the US had a baby boy in November! This year was relatively light on births compared to other years.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes, my Pappy Furry died in January and my cat, Obie, died in April. I hope they're hanging out together! :)
5. What countries did you visit?
England, Switzerland, and America.
6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
A job. I was severely lacking in employment this year.
7. What dates from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
April 1st because that's when I found out about Obie. April 4th because that's my wedding day! :)
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Surviving boot camp. I was actually sad when it ended.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not being able to find a job.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
No, thank goodness.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
A dehumidifier. I was more excited about this than our wedding rings!
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My husband for putting up with my periodic breakdowns and rants. Also, Laura the petsitter, who was here with Obie and was wonderful with both of the cats.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The Irish government. I'm appalled by what they get away with, then it all just leaves me depressed in the end.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Student loans
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Well, other than the obvious of the wedding, probably eating Thanksgiving dinner! :)
16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
Probably, Shakira's Underneath Your Clothes as it was the song for our first dance. I love that song!
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder?
happier - last year at this time I felt like I was waiting around to get married.
b) thinner or fatter?
fatter - a husband does nothing for your waistline!
c) richer or poorer?
poorer - no job, no money!
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Um...pulled a paycheck! Unfortunately I didn't have much choice in the matter!
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Sitting around.
20. How did you spend Christmas?
In Cork with Wes' family.
21. Did you fall in love in 2009?
I already was, so it just grew in 2009! :)
22. What was your favorite TV program?
New shows I enjoyed in 2009 were Mad Men, How I Met Your Mother and 30 Rock. Hey, they were new to me! I only saw one episode of Glee, but I'm pretty sure if I saw the whole season that would be on my list too!
23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Hate is a pretty strong word, but I'm not too keen on my friend's husband right now!
24. What was the best book you read?
Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh.
25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
No car and no commute means I don't really have my finger on the pulse of new music. I'm at least a year behind.
26. What did you want and get?
To get married!
27. What did you want and not get?
A job.
28. What was your favorite film of this year?
We don't really go to the cinema that often, but I think The Hangover was my favorite film this year.
29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 34. I can't remember what I did. I moved from England to Dublin the following weekend, so that pretty much trumps what I did on my birthday.
30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
If Wes' contract had been renewed for 5 more years.
31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
'The Uniform' which consists of yoga pants and my Gap hooded sweatshirt.
32. What kept you sane?
My new friends in Dublin.
33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Jon Hamm aka Don Draper in Mad Men. I want to go there.
34. What political issue stirred you the most?
The scandal within the Catholic church and how the Irish government handled it. Disgusting.
35. Who did you miss?
Pretty much everyone I don't see on a fairly regular basis! That's a dumb question for an expat!
36. Who was the best new person you met?
Again, probably my new Dublin friends!
37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009.
Being married is hard, but it is totally worth it!
38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
'Going to the chapel and we're, gonna get married....' :)
Happy New Year!
