A thread on UK-Yankee has me already thinking about scoring some canned pumpkin. Does anyone know anyplace in Dublin that sells this?? Yes, I know I can just make my own pureed pumpkin, but I am very lazy. And my Grandma (the Queen of the Pie) has said that the quality of canned pumpkin is really just as good as fresh pumpkin puree. I can't dispute the Pie Genius! I am a fan of all things pumpkin, except pumpkin pie. Hate it. I've already informed Wes that for Thanksgiving this year I will be making this incredibly tasty cake:
Pumpkin Spice Bundt Cake with Buttermilk Icing
Also, if anyone knows if it's possible to get a turkey (or at least a turkey breast) around Thanksgiving please let me know. In England it was really hard to get a whole turkey to roast except at Christmas. AND, you had to order it!

Fallon & Byrne for canned pumpkin, ask at M&S if you can order a whole turkey.
ReplyDeleteAhhh....I'd forgotten about Fallon & Byrne. I'm not allowed to go in there because I'll go nutso. This is a great excuse! Thanks for the tips!
ReplyDeletePlus, any asian goods store is usually a great place to pick up "exotic" food stuffs. My local one is the only place I've ever seen creamed corn!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sirmelja! That's a great idea, actually and there are some big ones near us. I went into Fallon & Byrne. Hello overpriced American goods!! I loved it! They didn't have pumpkin, but the guy said they'll start getting it in October. I couldn't get out of there without getting a tiny bag of Nestle chocolate chips for an extortionate price.
ReplyDeleteYou can check the giant Tesco at Dundrum too - they are pretty good about taking my "suggestions" if they don't have something.
ReplyDeleteI am an American living in Dublin for the last 7 years. We live out in the Citywest area and we have been getting our Turkey from the Market Butchers in Greenogue Business Park- Fantastic!!!
ReplyDeleteThe butchers in there suggested we a get a Turkey crown. I will never go back to a whole turkey- what a great suggestion! Check them out, fantastic butcher and fantastic prices
Good to know! I agree about the turkey crown. It's an excellent choice, especially if you don't have an oven that's big enough for a whole turkey! My friend did a turkey crown and they wrapped it in bacon to keep it moist. Delicious!
ReplyDeleteThe Gourmet Bank in Churchtown is also a pretty good choice for picking up those Turkey Day essentials. This will be my 6th TG since emigrating and have found that any butcher worth their (sea) salt can get you a turkey from Hogan's Farm in Co Meath. They're out of this world for quality. I'm fortunate enough to have an oven that will accommodate a full bird. We usually have 10-14 of our nearest and dearest, so the full monty is our only man. Plus, life wouldn't be the same without Turkey stock for all my pre-Xmas soups.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed you have such a large oven! This is excellent advice. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI think that this website might meet a lot of your american food needs. It is based in Dublin, run by an American lady who is living in Ireland.
