Brunch in Ireland stinks
In order to get a satisfying brunch we had to go to two places: the first place for overpriced eggs, the second place for a cup of coffee that was larger than a shot glass. Actually, the egg place was the third place we tried. The first place was closed even though they advertise that they serve brunch, the second place stopped serving breakfast at 11:15 and it was 11:20, so by the third place we were desperate.
Attempts to get Sunday brunch in Ireland always lead to me reminiscing on The Hull Street Blues Cafe in Baltimore and their kick ass brunch.

Have you tried Cafe Bliss on 4B Montague Street? Juice does vegetarian brunch. Gruel on Dame Street probably does a decent brunch, and I've read good reviews of The Cake Cafe, Lemon on South William, Cafe Sofia on Wexford Street, Queen of Tarts (I've eaten lunch there and it was great), Munchies on South William and Wexford, The Farm on Dawson street (serving organic everything), The Gallagher's Boxy house in Temple bar (it's cute in there, actually), Mermaid Cafe on Dame Street, and Green 19 on Camden Street. And finally Cafe Fresh in the Powerscourt Centre on the top floor. If you're up here in Drumcondra the Ivy House does a good job as well. I think it's a matter of knowing where to look!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestions! We were walking around after our coffee stop and saw some places that advertised brunch but it was too late by then, of course. I know Munchies is a no-go...Wes doesn't like it. I thought The Farm was vegetarian/vegan. Do they do organic meat too? I'll pass the ideas on to Wes and we'll certainly have a good time trying them out!
ReplyDeleteFrom another expat... try odessa... it was my favorite during my dublin stint (now in wexford) ... i forget the street though... just off george st....
ReplyDeleteI think they serve meat! I found their menu here: http://www.menupages.ie/restaurants/the_farm_restaurant/menu.aspx
ReplyDeleteI tell you what though, I don't know if they have brunch, but definitely check out the savory pies at South William. Holy moly.
and, odessa has the best brunch ever. all day on saturday and sunday....best huevos rancheros in ireland (probably only....)
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone remember when Frank (from Arizona) and his Irish wife had American style cafe on 2nd floor in Powerscourt? They moved to London several yrs ago but it was the only place an American could get a decent bagel and a coke with enough ice in it. Today, I'd recommend Sofia's to anyone, any time. I'm the Cheesecake Man......teddybeartwo@aol.com
